Welcome to tygertale.com, a blog about brilliant children’s books.
Most of my working life has been spent researching, producing and developing documentaries for the BBC (or ‘films’ as we grandly call them). One of those series was Picture Book – An Illustrated History of Children’s Books on BBC Four. Here I am doing my job, talking to the former children’s laureate Chris Riddell in his garden.
I now work as an audio describer for blind and visually impaired audiences in theatres around the south west of England and am studying at Bath Spa University on the Writing for Young People MA.

Hoping to increase your tally of up to four readers! Liking the couple of posts I’ve seen so far.

Hi there, I hope you don’t mind me contacting you like this. We are Colour Heroes and design and publish children’s historical books and activity books. I was wondering if I sent you a couple of free copies whether you would be interested in reviewing/blogging about them? Kind regards, Claire

Fabulous! Love your post on the Puffin Annual, Puffin Post and the Kaye Webb era: your writing along with the imaginative, lavishly-illustrated design. It takes a lot to put all three together well. Introduced to you via calmgrove–thanks to both of you.

Perhaps you will at some stage take a look at the peerless E. Nesbit? (But perhaps not The Railway Children)

Hi, sooo enjoying your blog! Very inspiring, love it! I had forgotten how much I like good children’s books (often especially the illustrations). Please finish your own, your drawings are wonderful! Thanks for being there, Esther

Just found your blog – led to it when trying to source some new (old) picture lions. Now (in May!) you’ve inspired me to plan an Christmas picture book advent calendar for this year. Well, at least I’ve got plenty of time to organise. 😂

I’ve just stumbled across your blog and love it! I was wondering if you’re currently accepting review copies of picture books? If so, I’d be happy to send you an email with more information about the books we have coming up at EK Books – ‘Books with heart on issues that matter’ 🙂
Cheers,
Kirsten

Hi Kirsten, thanks for the message. Unfortunately I don’t usually accept review copies, I tend to just feature books that prompt me to write about them. All the best, Jake
